LiDAR by the PPI Group

The PPI Group will present an overview of LiDAR technology. An explanation of the three collection methods (airborne, terrestrial, and mobile), as well as the application for each will be discussed.  An overview of two types of terrestrial laser scanning (Time of Flight and Phase Based), and review of project data collected from these sensors will be covered.  Additional focus will be given to Mobile Scanning, and how it is revolutionizing our industry.  Sample data will be analyzed with a variety of software applications to showcase the amount of power that this data holds, and demonstrate why specialized software packages have been developed to handle the needs of various industry requirements.

Position Available:         CAD TECHNICIAN

We are looking for a CAD technician to work fulltime producing plan sets for engineering/ stream, river, and wetland restoration drawings.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Work independently on all aspects of plan production using AutoCAD to create engineering construction documents for habitat restoration projects.

·         Coordinate with project managers to ensure that multiple projects with simultaneous timelines are completed on schedule(manage workloads and tasks for self and others).

·         Work cooperatively as part of a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and biologists to develop plan sets (organize layouts, develop details, plan views, etc.).

 

Required Qualifications - Interest in and Demonstrated Ability to:

·         Work with AutoCAD 2010 at a minimum.

·         Competently work with AutoCAD tools needed for plan production:

o        Templates (create and work with)

o        Sheet set manager (create and work with custom fields to develop titleblocks and callouts, properties, sheet and model views, page setups, batch plot).

o        Xrefs (create and work with)

o        Styles (create and work with for text, dimensions, leaders, tables, plot, etc.)

o        Layer management (filtering, creating layers, viewport settings, plot styles, line type loads, etc.)

o        Page setup manager (create page setups)

o        Annotative scaling (create and work with)

o        Block creation and editing

o        Model space and paper space (working understanding of the different tools and content used in each)

·         Independently research/ troubleshoot AutoCAD issues, such as proper plotting, element display,xref object display, etc.

·         Submit electronicAutoCAD drawing file packages to clients and other consultants with awareness of CAD file version compatibility, relative paths, and data shortcuts.

·         Be organized and detail-oriented.

·         Integrate changes given as markups and verbally.

·         Continually expand knowledge of AutoCAD capabilities.

·         Use basic computer skills, Microsoft software, and install/ uninstall software.

 

·         Ability and/or interest in becoming competent (required) in:

o        Developing plan sets with City of Seattle CADD standards.

o        Working with National CAD Standards.

o        Working with CAD drawings that contain Civil 3D objects and data shortcuts so that file integrity is maintained between AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

o        Creating and manipulating surfaces, profiles, cross-sections, etc. with Civil 3D.

o        Creating basemaps from survey data.

o        Estimating CAD time needed to produce budgets.

o        Developing civil/ landscape drawings to depict natural settings.

o        Creating various line types with embedded text.

Februrary Bellingham AutoCAD meeting postponed
February 17, 2012
Due to scheduling conflicts this month's BAUG meeting has unfortunately been postponed.  Our next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, March 28.  Upcoming BAUG events include:

  • Working with Point Clouds in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Presented by the PPI Group.
  • "South of the Boarder" Joint Vancouver AutoCAD User Society (VAUS) and Bellingham AutoCAD User Group meeting.  AutoCAD 2013 rollout presentation.
  • Field trip to Lynden High School for InvenTeam's open house-See the recumbent trike.
  • Additional meeting topic suggestions welcome.
